Applying

Which programmes can I apply for?

Any academic field, at undergraduate or postgraduate level, in English-taught programmes or Chinese language programmes.

When should I start?

Ideally 9 to 12 months before you want to start. Most programmes begin in September and many scholarship rounds close early in the year.

Can I apply to more than one university?

Usually yes. Rules on multiple scholarship applications vary, so we plan this with you.

Do I need IELTS or TOEFL?

Many English-taught programmes ask for one, but some accept other proof of English, such as previous study in English. It depends on the university.

Scholarships

Are scholarships available in all fields?

Yes. Government (CSC), university and provincial scholarships, full or partial, are open to international students in most disciplines, subject to eligibility.

Can you guarantee a scholarship?

No, and nobody honestly can. We give you the strongest possible application and a realistic view of your chances.

What does a full scholarship cover?

Typically tuition, campus accommodation, medical insurance and a monthly stipend. See the scholarship guide.

Living in China

Do I need to speak Chinese?

No, not for English-taught programmes. Learning basic Chinese is still recommended for daily life, and we teach it.

Which visa do I need?

An X1 student visa for degree programmes. You then apply for a residence permit within 30 days of arriving. See the visa guide.

Is it safe for international students?

Chinese cities are generally considered safe, and universities have international student offices to help. We brief every student before departure.

MBBS

Is an MBBS from China valid in India?

It can be, if the course meets the NMC's FMGL Regulations, 2021: at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution, taught in English, and more. Read the MBBS guide.

Is there a list of NMC-approved universities in China?

No. The NMC does not approve individual foreign universities. Check the course against the FMGL rules instead.
